PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Wildcat Creek flows west from Wildcat Canyon approximately six miles as it cuts through the towns of Richmond and San Pablo, California and empties into San Pablo Bay. The creek meanders around some remaining stands of native vegetation of bunch grasses, coast live oaks and California bay laurels as it bisects a Depression-era public park, borders schoolyards and hospital grounds, runs beside shopping centers, through residential neighborhoods, over household waste, under Highway 80 and the Richmond Parkway, flowing into a restored tidal marsh and terminates adjacent to the Chevron Oil refinery at the mouth of the creek.

While mapping Wildcat Creek in 2003, scientific data such channel restrictions, existing vegetation, infrastructure and land uses were generated but the sensual quality and “sense of place” seemed to be missing. This interactive map attempts to capture some of these qualities found along the creek.

The slider on the bottom left hand of the map allows the viewer to navigate the creek from west to east. Click on numbers to link to images, video and audio captured along the creek.
